I used this resource after returning from lockdown to help children identify their strengths. We began by exploring the strengths, what they mean and some examples of each, also highlighting that everyone has strengths. We then do an activity where all children write and decorate their name in the middle of a piece of card which is then passed around the circle. As each child receives a new card they comment on the back what they think the person’s strengths are. At the end everyone has a card to take home filled with lovely comments from their classmates, highlighting their strengths.
Children can then create their own jar of strengths (see template and example) using their peers’ comments and the vocabulary we’ve learned. This is a great activity for transition or the start of a new year. You could learn the vocabulary throughout the year and complete the activity once you know they’re confident with their meaning. You could also ask the children if they can think of any other strengths too.
